Docterz Raises ₹5 Crore to Expand AI Tools for Doctors

Healthcare technology startup Docterz has raised ₹5 crore from approximately 35 investors to expand its digital healthcare platform and develop practical artificial intelligence (AI) tools for medical professionals. What makes the funding round particularly interesting is that nearly 60% of the capital came from doctors who already use the company's technology.

Around 20 doctors contributed close to ₹3 crore, making existing customers a significant part of the investment group. The round also included Vineeta Singh, co-founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics, and Avnish Anand, co-founder and former CEO of CaratLane.

Founded by practising paediatrician Dr Atish Laddad more than a decade ago, Docterz provides technology designed to help doctors manage clinical and administrative responsibilities. The company says its platform currently supports more than 5,000 doctors across India.

The fresh capital will support organic expansion, potential acquisitions and the development of AI-enabled features aimed at making everyday medical practice management more efficient.

Doctors Invest in a Platform They Already Use

The participation of existing customers is the most distinctive aspect of Docterz's latest funding round.

Approximately 20 doctors who use the platform invested close to ₹3 crore, representing nearly three-fifths of the total amount raised. Rather than relying entirely on external investors, the company received a substantial share of its funding from professionals familiar with its product and daily operations.

For a healthcare software business, this kind of participation offers an interesting indication of customer confidence. Doctors who use a platform regularly can evaluate its practical value through their own experience with patient records, appointments, billing and clinic administration.

Vineeta Singh also highlighted the significance of customers investing in a business, describing this participation as an important signal of confidence in the company and its founder.

However, customer investment alone does not establish long-term commercial success. Docterz will still need to demonstrate that it can convert its existing user relationships into wider adoption, sustainable revenue and a scalable business.

What Does Docterz Offer?

Docterz provides an integrated platform that brings several functions of medical practice management together.

Its technology includes:

  • Electronic Medical Records: Maintaining patient information and medical records digitally.

  • Appointment Scheduling: Managing patient appointments and clinic schedules.

  • Billing Management: Supporting billing and administrative activities.

  • Vaccination Management: Helping doctors organise vaccination-related records and schedules.

  • Patient Engagement: Supporting communication and follow-up with patients.

These functions address a common operational challenge for independent doctors and smaller clinics. Alongside treating patients, practitioners must manage documentation, staff, appointments, billing and follow-ups.

By bringing these activities into one platform, Docterz aims to reduce the administrative workload associated with running a medical practice.

Its reported base of more than 5,000 doctors gives the company an existing user network from which it can expand its product offering.

AI Tools Are the Next Growth Priority

The latest funding will also support Docterz's plans to develop practical AI tools for medical professionals.

Instead of positioning AI only as a technology feature, the company is focusing on tasks that form part of doctors' everyday workflows.

Its planned areas of development include:

Clinical documentation: AI-enabled assistance could help doctors organise and manage routine documentation more efficiently.

Administrative workflows: Automation and intelligent tools could reduce repetitive work associated with clinic operations.

Practice data analysis: Better access to organised practice information could help doctors understand operational patterns and manage their clinics.

Patient follow-ups: AI-supported tools could assist with managing routine patient communication and follow-up activities.

These are development priorities rather than a confirmation that every capability is already available in the product.

The distinction matters because healthcare AI requires more than convenience. Any technology used around clinical documentation or patient information must be developed with appropriate privacy safeguards, data security and professional oversight. AI assistance should not replace a doctor's independent clinical judgement.

Why Smaller Clinics Could Become an Important Market

India's healthcare technology opportunity is not limited to large hospitals and corporate healthcare networks.

Independent practitioners and smaller clinics also need reliable systems for patient records, appointment management, billing and communication. However, their technology requirements and budgets can differ significantly from those of large hospital groups.

This creates an opportunity for software companies offering practical, accessible and easy-to-use solutions.

Docterz plans to reach more independent practitioners, smaller clinics and healthcare organisations across India. Its existing experience with doctors, particularly in paediatrics, may help it understand the operational requirements of this customer segment.

The wider Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission also reflects India's broader direction towards digital healthcare infrastructure and connected health information systems. For practice-management platforms, the ability to work responsibly within the evolving digital health ecosystem could become an important consideration.

Expansion and Potential Acquisitions

Docterz plans to use the new capital for both organic and inorganic growth.

Organic expansion will involve reaching more doctors and healthcare organisations, strengthening its existing platform and developing additional capabilities.

The company is also exploring acquisition opportunities. Potential acquisitions could help it expand its technology capabilities, product portfolio or market reach, although no specific acquisition target or transaction has been announced.

This combination of product development and possible acquisitions suggests that Docterz is looking beyond simply increasing its existing customer base. It wants to strengthen the overall technology offering available to medical practitioners.

What the Funding Means for India's Healthtech Market

Docterz's latest funding round highlights an important aspect of healthcare technology: products built around the actual working requirements of medical professionals may have an advantage in a market where trust and usability matter.

The participation of existing doctor-users is particularly relevant. These investors are not only evaluating the company from an external financial perspective; they also have experience using its technology in their professional practices.

For the company, this creates an opportunity to build its next phase of development around direct feedback from its user community.

Nevertheless, the next stage will bring its own challenges. Docterz must demonstrate that its AI features provide meaningful value, that smaller clinics can adopt its technology easily and that patient information remains protected.

The company will also need to balance expansion costs with customer retention and long-term business sustainability.

The Road Ahead

Docterz has secured ₹5 crore in fresh capital, received substantial backing from doctors using its platform and identified AI development as a priority for its next phase of growth.

Its immediate opportunity lies in making clinic-management technology more useful to independent practitioners and smaller healthcare organisations. AI-enabled documentation, administrative assistance, practice data analysis and patient follow-ups could strengthen the platform if implemented responsibly.

The more significant test will be whether Docterz can turn its existing doctor relationships into a larger, sustainable healthcare technology business.

For now, the funding round sends a notable signal: the company's own users are willing to invest in the technology they rely on to manage their medical practices.
